The Alaska Zoo is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting conservation of Arctic, sub-Arctic and like climate species through education, research and community enrichment. Our core values are Community, Safety, Education, Stewardship and Fun. Each year for the past 55 years, we have opened our doors to care for Alaska's wildlife in need as biologists and wildlife agency staff deem necessary. In some cases, we are a permanent home. In other cases, we raise young animals to health and provide safe transport to other high-quality zoo homes. This endeavor of care is meaningful and close to the heart of our mission. It is an expensive time of year as we provide emergency in-house veterinary care, around-the-clock monitoring, formula, medications, increased staff hours and increased facility maintenance.
